HARRY DUNLOP
They say leave the best till last. Harry Dunlop, son of Champion Trainer John Dunlop, brother of Classic winner Ed Dunlop, made his training debut on 2nd October 2006. His first runner was at Wolverhampton on 2nd November 2006 with SITULA. She lead from start to finish to record Harry's first winner from his first runner therefore posting a 100% strike rate!
Since then Harry has gone from strength to strength recording more winners both on the All Weather and Turf. Of the many stars that Harry has trained is FESTOSO who as a 2yr old filly was placed in three Group races including 2nd in the Grp2 Cherry Hinton , 3rd in the Grp1 Cheveley Park Stakes to subsquent 1,000 Guineas winner Natagora, and 4th in the Grp2 Lowther at York. She went onto win Listed races as a 3yr and 4yr old and was sold at the end of her career for 460,000 guineas.
Other notable Black Type horses include CLASSIC REMARK, Harry's first Listed winner; THREE MOONS, 4th in the Grp3 Dahlia, 2nd in the Pretty Polly Listed at Newmarket and 4th in the Wolferton Listed at Royal Ascot; GREEN MOON won the London Gold Cup by a stunning margin and went onto win the Fairway Listed race at Newmarket and then was 4th Grp2 King Edward VII at Royal Ascot; PRACTITIONER was 2nd in the Washington Singer having been purchased for £5,000 and was sold for £88,000 at the end of his 2yo career to run in Hong Kong.
Harry holds a dual purpose licence. JUST A THOUGHT was 2nd in the Grade 2 NH Flat race at Newbury and went on to give Harry his first runner at the Cheltenham Festival in the Weatherbys Champion Bumper.
Harry completed his apprenticeship under three of Britain's leading trainers, Nicky Henderson, Henry Cecil and John Dunlop and spent time abroad in the USA, Australia and New Zealand. He has also ridden as an amateur under Rules, achieving every jockey’s dream by riding a winner at Cheltenham.
