Harry Dunlop
They say leave the best till last. Harry Dunlop, son of Champion Trainer John Dunlop, brother of Classic winner Ed Dunlop, made his training debut on 2nd October 2006. On 2nd November 2006 Harry had his first runner at Wolverhampton with Situla, a 2yr old filly owned by Anamoine Ltd. Situla was ridden by Dane O'Neill and lead from start to finish to record Harry's first winner from his first runner therefore posting a 100% strike rate. She subsequently finished 2nd and 3rd before retiring for the season.
Since then Harry has gone from strength to strength recording more winners both on the All Weather and Turf. The star of his first Flat season was Festoso, a 2yr old filly who won her maiden and then went on to be placed in three Group races including 2nd in the Grp2 Cherry Hinton to Youresothrilling, 3rd in the Grp1 Cheveley Park Stakes at Newmarket and 4th in the Grp2 Lowther, York. More black type suceess has been achieved by fillies such as Classic Remark and Three Moons and the very exciting colt Green Moon.
Just a Thought was 2nd in the Grade 2 NH Flat race at Newbury and went on to give Harry his first runner at the Cheltenham Festival in the Weatherbys Champion Bumper.
Harry completed his apprenticeship under three of Britain's leading trainers, Nicky Henderson, Henry Cecil and John Dunlop and spent time abroad in the USA, Australia and New Zealand. He has also ridden as an amateur under Rules, achieving every jockey’s dream by riding a winner at Cheltenham.
