Last summer EARLY MORNING (4yo) had just completed a sparkling piece of work when disaster struck and he fractured his leg. Within minutes the vet and horse ambulance were on site and he was stabilised and transferred to Donnington Grove vets in Newbury. An upright operation had to be performed on the leg as it was too risky to have him flat where during recovery he might re- break the leg whilst regaining his feet. He was an outstanding patient especially bearing in mind he was still a colt and fit to race. He remained at the hospital for a number of weeks before returning to Windsor House Stables for a lengthy rest.
Throughout this time despite the confinement he remained the loveliest natured horse. At the end of the year he was given the go ahead to go to Kingwood Stud for a holiday where he could be turned out under supervision. From then on he blossomed, returning to WHS at the beginning of this year. Harry gradually built up his exercise whilst all the time monitoring the old leg injury. He returned to the race track at Kempton Park where under a confident ride by Steve Drowne he WON impressively with plenty in the tank. It was to say the least one of the most emotional winners Windsor House has produced, a real fairy-tale story.
Huge thanks must go to his wonderful owners The Early Risers, whose faith and trust in Harry was dully rewarded. They also bred him as well.
More of the older horses made their seasonal debuts including BRITTLETON
(3yo) who was an excellent 2nd at Lingfield Park giving his patient owners Sir Philip Wroughton & Deodata Blyth Currie lots to look forward to. PALOMA DANCER (3yo) battled on well to finish 3rd in a competitive race at Southwell. Both SUNDAY ROYAL (3yo) and RUM SWIZZLE (3yo) made eye catching runs at Windsor and will be interesting to see how they progress this season. It was tremendous to see six times winner VIKING STORM (7yo) return to the racetrack at Newmarket after a lengthy layoff. He was last seen when winning at
Salisbury in September 2013. His very loyal and patient owners, Be Hopeful Partnership turned out in force and he will come on enormously from the race. Huge credit must go to the team here at Windsor House for the care and attention to detail administered to both him and Early Morning. We are very lucky to have such a dedicated team.
