February 2009 Newsletter

9th February 2009

The seasonal weather has continued to play havoc with the winter racing programme.

WANDERING MINSTRAL had his second run over hurdles at Wincanton. Despite encountering testing ground he jumped very well and once the jockey realised he was struggling in the going sensibly let the horse come home in his own time. He holds an entry at Newbury on 7th February but again so much will be governed by the weather.

Currently there are no horses running on the All Weather. The two year olds are thriving and coping well with all the varied conditions. Nearly all the horses are back in training with just a few still to arrive. The older horses are now fully cantering and all are doing well in readiness for the start of the Turf Flat season at the end of March.

“Five to Follow Competition

This will be run for the 2009 Flat season.  If you are interested in taking part please contact the office on info@harrydunlopracing.com . Last year we had over 75 entries! Please note that this year’s entries close at 12 noon on 28th March 2009. The printed 2009 Horses in Training card will be sent out to everyone at the end of March once the various names have been registered.

Family Ties

Having found herself made redundant Maureen Wright (wife of our Head Lad Phil) and her sister Kate Lindsay have set up the bespoke service, Family Ties. Between them they have over 70yrs experience making bow ties, evening and wedding neckwear, cummerbunds, hunting stocks, cravats and scarves for top retailers such as Dunhill, Harrods, Gieves & Hawkes and Aquascutum. They can be contacted on 01488 71108 Maureen or 0148872625 Kate.

Date for the Diary – Lambourn Open Day – Good Friday 10 April 2009

The perfect way to start the Easter holiday weekend. Nearly all the yards in Lambourn open to the public between 8am-1pm followed by an afternoon of entertainment, stalls and celebrity schooling in the field by the Fibresand gallop and Equine Hospital. Windsor House Stables will be open and in addition will be holding three swimming demonstrations.
