April 2009 Newsletter

12th April 2009

Just before the official start of the Turf season 3yo filly AROUNDTHEBAY scored impressively at Kempton Park providing her new owners, The Endeavour partnership with their first win. She will now go back to Kempton Park in search of a hatrick at the course. This was a fabulous effort by all involved as she is a quirky filly who has to have the hack Colisay leading her during her exercise.

Her win was soon followed up by PETER GRIMES being “lifted over the line” by Seb Sanders in a thrilling battle at Folkestone. Members of the Be Hopeful partnership were on hand to greet their gallant winner.

Others to make their seasonal debuts included TROUBLETIMESTWO who was an eye-catching 4th at Wolverhampton. FONDANT FANCY & AM I BLUE 3rd and 4th respectively at Bath, with both fillies showing plenty of promise for future races. ORDER ORDER was just touched off at Wolverhampton finishing 3rd. The 3yo filly ARRIVEDERLA made her racecourse debut at Kempton Park finishing 3rd in a very strong maiden which was won by Respite who had been 2nd to leading 1,000 Guineas contender Fantasia on her debut. BAGBER ran a very good race when 3rd at Lingfield to the highly regarded Hamdan al Maktoum owned Muraweg.

Many of you will have remembered JUST A THOUGHT who was the first horse to run in Christina’s colours. After suffering from a tendon injury he was recuperating at a stud when he sadly broke a hind leg. He was 2nd in two Grade 2 NH Bumper races and gave Harry his first ever Cheltenham Festival runner when contesting the Champion Bumper where he ran well. He was quite a character and will be sadly missed.

“Five to Follow Competition

The Five to Follow Competition went off to a flying start with PETER GRIMES flashing past the post in first place. He was a very popular selection and a large number of the entries included his name.

Lambourn Open Day – Good Friday 10 April 2009

We look forward to welcoming you with your friends and family to the Lambourn Open Day on Good Friday. Gates open at 8.30am with car parks open at 7.30am.

We have various activities at our yard such as Guess the Weight of the Hack, meet the Easter Bunny, test your knowledge with the Easter Quiz, and please do come and see your horse. We will be holding swimming demonstrations at 9.30am, 10.30am & 11.30am – these are very popular and people start queuing up to an hour before!  Car parking is available opposite the yard entrance.

If you would like to visit Nicky Henderson and Barry Hills then it is best to go there first (straight down the High Street, over the crossroads and out of the village on the Wantage road).

Finally a very Happy Easter to everyone
