AUGUST 2009

 

 

One word sums up the past month – Seconditis! PETER GRIMES returned to form and ran an absolute cracker on soft ground to finish 3^rd in a competitive Newmarket handicap.  CROCUS ROSE was most unlucky not to win at Doncaster when trapped on the rails. Once out she showed great determination and was a fast finishing 3^rd. Jockey Jimmy Quinn admitted it was his fault and was keen to make amends. She then went to Haydock where she and Deauville Flyer pulled 6 lengths clear of the others only to be beaten on the line in atrocious conditions into 2^nd place.

 

 

LISTILLO has now run six times finishing 2^nd four times in a row! He is the most consistent of horses and extremely genuine and deserves to win a race in the near future. He was also Harry’s first runner at the inaugural Flat meeting at Ffoss Las, a fabulous new racecourse in south Wales. Taking a big step up in class was PRACTITONER who finished 2^nd by a neck to the highly rated R. Hannon trained Sir Parky at Newbury.  Another 2yo to make his racecourse debut was ROYAL ETIQUETTE. He showed plenty of potential at Salisbury when making eye catching progress in the final furlong to finish 3rd.

 

 

SALES 2009

 

It is hard to believe that in less than a month the first of the UK thoroughbred yearling sales will be underway. Harry will be attending all the major sales and is happy to accompany and advise any potential buyers. The yard’s leading 2yo to date, PRACTITIONER was purchased at last year’s Doncaster St Leger Sale for £5,500. He has now run three times finishing 1^st, 3^rd & 2^nd respectively and has a rating of 87 and will now be aimed at Listed level.

OWNERS DAY

 

Our head lad, Phil Wright and his team would like to thank all of you who contributed so generously to the staff thank you box. They were all very appreciative of your kindness.

 

 

FIVE TO FOLLOW – update

 

We are now halfway through the Flat season and the 5 to Follow competition has produced two leaders, Lizzie Allen and Sarah Scott both on 4 wins a piece. There are fifteen people on 3 wins so all to play for as we enter the second half of the season.

 

 

BERKSHIRE PIG NEWS – 1^st show of the season

 

Truffle took Reserve Championship rosette at the rare breeds show at Singleton. This matched a feat achieved by her sister Acorn in 2006. Both Truffle and daughter Russet are in-pig and due to farrow in early September to a very handsome Tamworth boar.
