December 2009 Newsletter

7th December 2009

The 2009 Turf season may be over but the All Weather season continues to produce more winners for Harry Dunlop Racing. After 16 runs DARK CAMELLIA under a masterful ride by Richard Hughes finally got her nose in front and won at Kempton Park.  Another old yard favourite ORDER ORDER also finally managed to win at Wolverhampton in convincing style over 1m4f.  The success of the older horses was matched by SOUNDS OF THUNDER signing off her 2yo career in winning form when she won at Wolverhampton. She was unlucky not to have won last time out and is an exciting prospect for next year. Her dam has now produced 6 winners from 6 runners. There are quarter/half shares available in this filly for the 2010 season.   WANDERING MINSTRAL finished 2nd at Taunton, racing in atrocious conditions. Hats off to the brave members of the See You Then Partnership who turned out in torrential rain to cheer him home. This horse has always promised so much and so this was an excellent result.

ORDER ORDER’s performance caught the eye of jumps trainer Tim Vaughan who then proceeded to buy her and WANDERING MINSTRAL in a private deal. They are now both installed in his yard in Wales alongside earlier purchase AM I BLUE and will both be campaigned over the jumps this winter.  Am I Blue has run twice over hurdles and was placed 3rd and 2nd respectively. PETER GRIMES who is now with Alan King won his debut hurdle race. Another successful NH graduate is BLAZING BUCK who was sold earlier this year and has also won over hurdles.

SALES

The recent Tattersalls Mare sale saw FESTOSO 4yo sold for 460,000guineas. She was the joint 4th top lot on the opening day. This was a mind blowing price and exceeded everyone’s predictions. She has been bought by Coolmore to join their broodmare band and is likely to be covered by Galileo.  For us it was a very emotional occasion as she was one of the very first horses to arrive at Windsor House Stables back in 2006. She put Harry firmly on the map during his first season and continued to deliver despite incurring various injuries. Festoso will be forever part of Harry Dunlop Racing.

OPEN MORNING – Saturday 28th November 2009

Sixty people attended a rather blustery but dry and sunny Open Morning. Ten horses were paraded including the recent purchases from the various yearling sales.  All the horses behaved extremely well and it was good for them to experience such an occasion.

CHRISTMAS PRESENT IDEAS

Stuck for a perfect present for Christmas then why not buy a share in a racehorse? There are still shares in various partnerships ranging from £730 upwards. To be enjoyed by all family and friends.

STAFF CHRISTMAS BOX

It is a racing tradition that every Christmas a collection is made for the members of staff who have worked so hard all year in whatever the weather. Many people were very generous last year. If you would like to make a donation towards it (£10-£20 is a guideline) then please send cash or make cheques payable to Harry Dunlop Racing and send to the office address. It is greatly appreciated.

5 TO FOLLOW RESULTS

This year it was a tight finish with five entries all tying with 5 winners apiece. The decision was then made on places. The result is:

1st Tina Blockley £185

2nd Bonk Walwyn £120

3rd Anne Mackenzie £65

Happy Christmas from everyone at Windsor House Stables and a huge thank you for all your support
